How to install windows 10 step by step

The first and foremost thing of any computer is its operating system. The operating system is responsible to manage the computer’s memory and processes as well as act as a link between hardware and software. In this article, I am going to teach you how to install windows 10 step by step. You can install windows 10 on a new computer as well as upgrade it from windows 7 or windows 8. You may need to install the operating system from scratch to your Gaming PC.

The importance of migrating windows 10 from windows 7 or windows 8 are:-

  • Speed:- Windows 10 is by far the fastest operating system than it’s predecessors windows7 and windows8 and even better than it’s the biggest competition that is Mac OS X that is apple’s operating system. Windows 10 boot-up time is relatively low when compared to the predecessors because windows 10 cut down bloatware and unnecessary system processes.
  • User-Friendly:- Windows 10 is very user-friendly as compared to windows 8 and 8.1 because the start button is back with expanding tile portal. Now users have both start button and as well as live tiles like Windows 8 in the same option. Windows 10 improved it’s touch performance too but the touch screen is not a preferred way of input by many users. It can be used when a user wants to design some graphical elements.
  • Security:- Windows 10 has done major improvements in security and now and then Microsoft releases a new security patch to improve security. Some security features provided by Microsoft are Windows Defender Smart Screen, Windows Defender Application Guard, Microsoft Bitlocker, etc.
  • Gaming:- Those who played games of windows 8.1 know the trouble at some point I wanted to switch back to my beloved windows XP because 8.1 is awful for gaming and even hardcore Gaming PC struggle to perform. In windows, 10 Microsoft rectified their mistake and packed a punch especially for gaming. It provides a game bar and has Xbox live and Xbox store which lets you stream Xbox games on your pc if you’re on the same network. Windows 10 comes with DirectX12 which will help developers to unleash more high-end games.

System Requirements of Windows 10

  • Processor:- 1 Gigahertz (Ghz) or fast processor.
  • Ram :- 1 Gigabyte for 32-bit(GB) and 2 Gigabyte(GB) for 64-bit.
  •  Hard Disk Space:- 16 GB for 32 bit OS and 20 GB for 64 bit OS
  • Graphics Card:- DirectX 9 or later.

Things to do before formatting Windows 10

It is a completely optional step but I will recommend doing these things before formatting your computer so you won’t face problems and you don’t lose your important data.

    1. Save your Data:- You may think it’s obvious to store data before reformatting but the thing is many users don’t back up their data and end up losing it. I faced this problem a lot when I was a beginner to counter that make sure you’ve checked every drive and folders in case something important is there that you don’t want to lose. You can use Google Drive to backup documents and use external hard disk or pen drives to backup your data.
    2. Copy browser’s setting:- While we browse the web we encounter some great content and we bookmark them to save in browser so we can access it again. It is recommended that you copy all your browser’s settings before formatting your computer. Using Google’s sync is a preferred option for saving the browser’s settings.
    3. Make a list of installed programs:- It’s advisable to make a list of all the programs before you format the computer because you may not remember all the programs on your computer. Using Windows PowerShell you can make this task easy. To do that first open Windows power shell and then add this code

Get-ItemProperty HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\* | Select-Object DisplayName, DisplayVersion, Publisher, InstallDate | Format-Table –AutoSize

This code will provide you all the software that is installed on your computer.

Get-ItemProperty HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\* | Select-Object DisplayName, DisplayVersion, Publisher, InstallDate | Format-Table –AutoSize > C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\InstalledPrograms-PS.txt

Replace Trevor with your username and press enter this will save your programs list on your computer.

4. Make a backup of your drivers:- It is wise to make a backup of essential drivers before formatting so you don’t have to download every driver. Nothing is worse than when hardware like a mouse and keyboard stop working post formatting and maybe you will regret that you should have made the backup. Well, you can use software like Driver Guide Toolkit or Driver Max.
